Packed with a wealth of experience, their respective members have spent the past decade touring the world and darkening studios with The Heavy, Alice Russell, Pete Josef, DJ Die and Dele Sosimi, bringing a rich heritage of sound straight out of Bristol’s thriving music scene. Expect beat-heavy sonics with soaring-horns, subterranean bass and keyboard wizardry, arpeggiating multi-layered vibrations born from a mutual respect of past musical idioms and future musical legacies.

A key pillar of the Reggae Revival movement, Kabaka Pyramid carved his way into the Jamaican reggae scene with Rebel Music in 2011. His hip hop roots were evident in the lyrical style and hard-hitting beats, laying the foundation for an ever-ascending career highlighted by the Grammy winning album “The Kalling” produced by role model Damian “Jr Gong” Marley.

Kabaka is well known for delivering an electrifying and entertaining live performance.

With a list of collaborators that includes Giggs, Idris Elba, Sarkodie, Fredo and Ghetts, Donae'O is the artist holding down London's underground. The producer, songwriter, rapper, and vocalist has been an early adopter of almost all crucial urban movements coming out of the capital; From garage, to grime, to the UK funky-inspired house, that continues to influence today's charts. With his new album which dropped in 2022, the time has come for this polymath to slide back into the spotlight.

Peachin' are a female events and DJ collective known for keeping the dance-floor on their toes. Bouncing between 90's/00's hip hop and R&B, dancehall, afrobeats’, Amapiano, UK garage, global club and more. They create a space for people to enjoy a dance floor that is fun, respectful and open to let loose!

She releases music on her own label, Hermine. Her main instrument is guitar, which most of her music is mainly composed of, but she also plays the piano, clarinet, accordion, and flute on her own. Aoba is known for her acoustic sound and song writing, which is inspired by her dreams.

Their brand of feel-good funk and hyped-up hip-hop has been delighting dance floors since 2016, dropping one dynamite LP after another, taking their live show across the country and beyond. Joining them on stage, as always, is LA rap legend, Andy Cooper. The mighty pipes of soul sensation, Marietta Smith, and the blazing horns of sax supremo, James Morton.

Warming up the turntables is Boca 45, known as somewhat of a Bristol institution from his early days in the mid 90s, selling Hip Hop & Funk from behind the counter of the seminal Purple Penguin record shop, rapidly becoming one of Europe’s most in demand DJs for a quick fire mix of bone-cracking breaks, hip hop, coruscating funk, rock and heavy soul.

+ Support from Naima Bock is a Glastonbury born singer-songwriter, to a Brazilian father and a Greek mother. Naima spent her early childhood in Brazil before eventually returning to England, this heritage combines with more recent pursuits in her music. She released her debut album ‘Giant Palm’ in 2022.

Cooper has released more than 70 original tracks and remixes, and more than twenty accompanying video works, primarily on London label FIELDS and German label Traum Schallplatten. His remixes range from avant-garde composers Michael Nyman and Nils Frahm, to bands like Hot Chip and Au Revoir Simone, to techno acts such as Agoria, Sasha (Welsh DJ) and Guy Andrews.

His work carries an emotional resonance and sensory immersion, often focusing on humanity’s place in the world. He merges electronic music and visual art with scientific enquiry through installations, live performance, and immersive audio-visual experiences.

Described as a “Storyteller”, Andy writes albums that unfolds like short fiction, full of colourful characters, fine details and a rich emotional depth. Under the guise of an intoxicating collection of Jazz-inflected romantic ballads, his story telling has become decidedly more oblique, hinting at ominous situations and dark motions.

His new album ‘Norm’ will be released on February 10th 2023

]]> No publisher <object object at 0x7fd3e9440580> music club night 2022-12-13T10:05:00Z Event Cardinal Black - NEW DATE https://ldap2.3ca.org.uk/whats-on/2023/cardinal-black 4-piece Rock band from Wales Rewind to 2010 when the Welsh-born trio of Tom Hollister, Chris Buck and Adam Roberts, were riding a wave of hype. Hotly tipped by some of the biggest names in rock, most notably Steve Winwood, who invited the band to record at his Wincraft Studios. A triumphant live set at Sonisphere was followed by a flight across the Atlantic, to begin to work on their first record with veteran manager Alan Niven (Guns N’Roses). As is often the case, expectation rarely mirrors reality, which leaded the band to call it and return to the UK. In the decade that followed, the lifelong friends cut their own paths whilst remaining close.

It was just a matter of time then, before they were ready to make music together again; The writing and recording of new material began in 2020, under the name Cardinal Black, joined by bassist Sam Williams. They may have taken the scenic route but, they are finally back and have plenty of stories to tell. Their debut album January come close released on October 28th is the proof...
