The Unknown Soldier reveals the hidden histories of black British servicemen and women who fought for Britain during the First and Second World Wars.

Presented by Alison Ray Dance Company, the show explores the personal stories of the brave men and women of Black British heritage and the part they played in Britain’s successful war effort.

Told through a variety of dance styles including Lindy Hop, African, Caribbean, and contemporary dance, this emotive dance theatre show weaves together visuals and live music to bring the narrative to life, offering a compelling tribute to Black British War Veterans.

In a world where the past often threatens to fade into obscurity, The Unknown Soldier stands as a beacon of remembrance, as told through dance, ensuring that the legacy of Black British War Veterans lives on for generations to come.

Igloo is a non-verbal, playful experience filled with warmth, sensation and gentle exploration, suitable for babes in arms and pre-schoolers aged 0-3 accompanied by their carers.

The Show is 30 minutes long, followed by a 30 minute stay and play, run by Travelling Light. Originally a Travelling Light and Bristol Old Vic co-production.

As part of each performance there will be a facilitated play session. The performance is non-verbal, but the play session contains some words. Audience members will also be given an Igloo picture book and other creative ideas to enable families to continue with creative play at home.

Molly Mural is a UK female Bristol mural artist. Curious and playful, Molly’s signature bold and colourful cut-out shapes span building murals, basketball courts, and streets to set designs, interiors and fashion.

Meet the Unicorn

Head down to Trinity and uncover a mystical unicorn as part of this yrs city-wide arts trail that is raising money for Leukaemia Care, the UK's leading leukaemia charity. Trinity’s unicorn, named 'Silence Provokes', has been painted by Bristol-based artist Emma Blake-Morsi. People can visit the Unicorn during opening hours (9am-5pm Monday - Friday) and most weekends. However, as Trinity is an active community space, we do apologise but access may be restricted to the site during day parties or wedding.

Explore Somali Culture

As part of Playable City we are hosting 'The House Of Weaving Songs' (07 July-09 July) an outdoor interactive artistic installation celebrating Somali culture featuring 360 audio and tapestry.  Click here to find out more.

Nature and Play

Throughout the Summer we are teaming up with Central Bristol Children's centre for 'Stay and Play' for 0yrs-11yrs (and their grown ups). These sessions, on Friday's, will offer nature and play activities - for free. We will be also running a cafe where you can buy hot drinks and healthy snacks. Click here to find out more.

Family Theatre and Picnics

Following the success of The Ash the Oak and the Standing Stones early this year we have again teamed up with Tidel Tales Collective to bring another magical show The Hare, the Moon and the River Picnic Series (18 Aug). Come along - and bring a picnic.

Arts Workshops

We've got a selection of community-focused arts workshops running at Trinity throughout the summer.

During July and August Newtown residents are invited to take part in free community painting sessions where you can take part in a mandala painting activity. Hosted by Brick Project CIC the sessions will run between 5:00pm-7:00pm - the meeting point is located just across the Clarence Road, which is next to the Trinity Centre.

Starting on 17 July we have Creative Wellbeing Workshops at Trinity, delivered in partnership with Age UK Bristol and Alive Activities. Take part in free in art, crafts, and activities as well as learning ways to look after your wellbeing, while exploring ways to unwind and relax. These drop in sessions are open to everyone. Age UK and Alive Activities would particularly like to welcome Refugees and Asylum Seekers aged 50+, as well as locals living close to the Trinity Centre

On 21 July we will have an Artwork Design Workshop with artist Molly Mural. This is a creative workshop and help design a new public artwork for Stapleton Road, drawing inspiration from local culture, history, and community values you will be able to use various techniques. Click here to sign up.

Community Cafes

Starting on Weds 19 July we are inviting our key community partners to 'take over' The Den and Garden for the afternoon. We will be welcoming key community partners such as Newtown Network to host activities and celebrate the work that they do. We will provide free hot and cold drinks as well as healthy snacks.

Day Parties & Weddings

During the summer months (July-Sep) we will be hosting full-site Days parties. These are for 14+ (under 16's must be accompanied by an adult). This includes veteran soundsystem Downbeat Melody (16 July) and Booty Bass x RepresentAsian (29 July) - tickets start at £5.

Who is this for?  
You might be an expert play-er in need of some inspiration (i.e. a performer), or perhaps your body is aching for some silliness after a long day at a desk. Or maybe you haven’t played since you were 6 and are now taking your first steps in your ‘serious person’ recovery journey... Any experience is welcome. Come as you are and let’s play.

What do I bring? 
The sessions involve movement and group games. Wear something you can move in and bring a water bottle. Take it at your own pace. Resting when needed is encouraged.

About Spilt Ink Theatre
Spilt Ink Theatre is a company formed by three female theatre-makers who met in Paris whilst training at Lecoq and Gaulier. They use play, physical theatre, puppetry and clown to create accessible theatre that inspires and moves a wide range of audiences; from young to old, where English may not be a first language and to those who might be new to participating in theatre. Their core intention is to make playful and visual work that is engaging and relevant, inspired by the voices of local people, and our own identities as artists.

Everybody Dance Now - Dance Connect Residency at Filwood Community Centre

Moving Bristol (2020 – 2021) was a partnership project with leading Dance Producer, Deborah Baddoo, supporting the development of dance across Bristol.

Over two years, Trinity supported four paid artist residencies, embedding practitioners in a range of grassroots sevices and community arts and health settings, to explore new ways of collaborative working.

We welcomed a total of 2756 participants across 61 workshops, focus groups, meetings and performances, both online and in-person. Alongside this, the project supported 69 artists paid work opportunities. The learnings from the project were embedded into Thriving Communities a year-long cross-sector partner project. Artist Residencies

Artist Lerato Dunn worked with Southmead Development Trust to develop Wellbeing Moves a project that explored a dance on prescription model.

Dance organisation The Original Spinners worked with Fresh Arts supporting the recovery of elderly and frail patients through working on dementia wards.

These residencies explored different ways in which dance can be used in health settings to improve wellbeing. This included targeted work with those experiencing life-limiting illnesses. Activities were co-designed by artists, service users and delivery staff.

Penny Caffrey and Helen Wilson collaborated with Filwood Community Centre to create Everybody Dance Now to promote a positive sense of place within communities.

Artist and Producer Katy Noakes collaborated with Knowle West Media Centre to develop a new contemporary dance piece 'Shuffle'.

These residencies explored ways that dance can be used to create a sense of place, community and belonging.

Dance Hubs

Producer Deborah Baddoo worked with participatory dance artists Helen Wilson, Julia Thorneycroft, Gather Up and Raquel Meseguer to develop cross-sector collaborations with target community, health and education services.

Connecting with venues The Trinity Centre, Creative Youth Network and Arnolfini, the artists established an active youth-dance network, produced and delivered a citywide Dance and Health Conference in November collaborated with venues to explore and understand how to break down barriers for people taking part in dance activities.

Art of Resistance - After the Fire

What makes an activist? What makes people take action and create artwork? What is or isn’t art or an artefact? After The Fire is a thought-provoking odyssey through the sounds and sights of Bristol’s protest history in recent years.

On the hour from 1pm until 5pm, we will have 15 minute immersive interventions - visceral performances by Bristol based artists symbolising 5 themes: PUNK, UPRISING, SPOKEN TRUTH, IDENTITY & REVOLUTION.

This event is part of our in-house programme Trinity Presents – celebrating our diverse City and platforming emerging talent and is a collaboration with  Art of Resistance our two-year, National Heritage Lottery Funded project charting 100 years of protest in Bristol.

Take part in carnival style dance at this years Harbour Festival

Trinity have curated a two-day programme of dance as part of this years Harbour Festival (16/17 July).

Following on from the success of 2019’s Bristol Dances stage we have reached out across the city to give audiences a taste of the wide-ranging professional, community and cultural dance Bristol has to offer.

Over two days audiences will experience the breadth of dance in the city from Irish Dancing to Bharathnatyam Dance to Voguing. Highlights include DMAC's Afrikan Dance, Drumming, Indigenous Storytelling & Capoeira Angola, performances from award-winning dance troupes, HYPE and Miss Daisy’s and Decolonising Memory: Digital Bodies In Movement.

D_wild Fitness will get people  moving with their dance fitness classes featuring afrobeats, soca and dancehall music. Enjoy samba-inspired drumming and dance troupe, Bristol Samba and acoustic performances from Aisha Ali, Bemudian folk artist Anna Colette and Portuguese neo-soul singer Luna Kali.

This year we also continue our commitment to collaborating with collectives and organisations who are working to amplify grassroots voices. This showcase will feature KIOTA collective, Bristol’s Got Talent and musicians from Lorraine Ayensu Refugee Arts organisation. The Art of Resistance showcase, inspired by the rich history of creative protest in Bristol, will feature some of Bristol’s best and up-and-coming arts activists working across poetry, performance and movement.

As part of the take-over we asked cultural and community organisations across Bristol to submit content for a film about Bristol's cultural offer. This film was shared the delegate including MP's and policy makers.

Trinity teamed up with Radix to programme a two-hour takeover at this year’s Big Tent Ideas Festival 2022.

Radix is a UK Think Tank whose work re-imagines societies, their Big Tent Festival is an opportunity for the public to take part in conversations to help shape UK policies.

For the festival we curated a jam-packed slot featuring keynotes and panel discussions to reflect the power and benefits of arts; personally, socially, and economically. St Pauls Carnival Executive Director LaToyah McAllister-Jones, Bristol Ideas Acting Director Naomi Miller and Knowle West Media Centre CEO Carolyn Hassan used their unique experience to discuss ways to democratise decision making and build ownership of arts and culture.

Gritty Talent Founder and CEO Melanie Rodrigues and TV industry consultant and specialist discussed the regional role of Bristol as a city of culture and its relationship to creative industries. Comedian and Writer Angie Belcher discussed arts for health & well-being whilst Quartet Community Foundation CEO Suzanne Rolt led a keynote on art for learning and social change

The programme also featured performances from City Poet Caleb Parkin, Hype Dance, Desperate Men, Edson Burton, Sheila Hannon and Lottie Ball - all showcasing Bristol's rich cultural offer.

Lullabies, created by multi-disciplinary artist Roxana Vilk, reached out and connected with communities across Bristol, recording and collecting songs from the many people who call Bristol home.

Initially developed during an IGNITE residency the project was selected to be part of the national project Here and Now to celebrate the National Lottery 25th Anniversary. Initially, Roxana worked with partners deliver song and music workshops in local community centres. However, due to the impact of the pandemic Roxana moved these workshops online meaning her project began to connect with people across the world.

Roxana used the sounds and stories of the people taking part in the project to influence the project. This saw a one person who initially took part in a workshop became a collaborator, helping in the delivery of the music-based workshops.

To celebrate Lullabies, Roxana staged a two day Trinity take over. She collaborated with tech-creatives Squidsoup to create an immersive, interactive performance inspired by the Lullabies journey with movement from dancers Delicia and Marianna, Real World Studios, Arron Hussain.

Bristol-based illustrator, Jasmine Thompson created portraits of some the families who took part in Lullabies exhibited and outside in the garden DJ’s staged a Baby Rave for the youngest members of our communities (plus their grownups).

Roxana is further developing her creative practice working with Bristol and Bath Creative R+D to further explore the Lullabies Project and is developing an ‘Adaptative Podcast’ with brand new technology featuring the co-creators Lullabies.

Projects like Lullabies are at the heart of Trinity’s commitment to artistic development.  We offer paid commissions to artists to develop work in collaboration with communities as well as artist residencies, free/subsided hire for R&D and producer and marketing support.

About Muriel's Wedding

Socially awkward Muriel Heslop wants nothing more than to get married. Unfortunately, due to her oppressive politician father, Muriel has never even been on a date. Ostracized by her more socially adept friends, Muriel runs into fellow outcast Rhonda Epinstalk, and the two move from their small Australian town to the big city of Sydney, where Muriel changes her name and begins the arduous task of redesigning her life to match her fantasies reminding us of the importance of transformation and chosen families.

Tom Marshman (Annette Curtain) is a Bristol based queer artist, having worked in cabaret, theatre and live art for over 20 years, he was recently appointed the Strike a light - Let artist be artists post.

Mariana Trench is deep, mysterious and responsible for the disappearance of several amateur divers. She is one of Bristol’s most in demand performers, with quick wit and enough talent to blow not only your socks off, but your whole outfit.
