The Trinity Centre Conservation Project and the Notes for Notes Fundraising Appeal

Public Meeting - Wednesday 17th August 6pm, Graffiti Room

We would like to invite all the community groups and individuals that regularly use the Trinity Centre, to attend a short meeting to learn more about the Trinity Conservation project and the Notes for Notes Fundraising Appeal that will support the essential conservation works required to building.

The Trinity Centre is a prominent heritage landmark in Bristol's Old Market Quarter, that has a long-standing history of community engagement. This year we are celebrating 40 years of music at the venue which, over the last four decades has become a prominent music venue and community arts hub.

The building was placed on the English Heritage Building At Risk Register in 2011 as urgent repair works where needed to the South aisle roof. Since then, the building has gone trough a series of vital renovation and conservation schemes to protect the historic fabric and improve access to quality space for the community, removing it from the "At Risk" Register in 2014. It is vital that additional conservation and repair works are carried out in 2017 to prevent the Trinity Centre falling back in the "At Risk" Register in the future.

The 2016-17 Trinity Centre Conservation Project includes essential repairs to the lead roof on the North aisle, extensive renovations to the stained glass windows and the Bath stonework on the towers and external walls.

Inspired by the heritage and architecture of the Trinity Centre, join us to create tiles!

Clay was traditionally used in religious buildings to create elaborate patterns for floor tiles. Learn the traditional 'encaustic slip' technique with a modern thematic twist. We will develop our designs through drawing and photos of Trinity's features.

Plaster moulds were used to make ceiling and cornice decorations and plaster craftsmen used clay to create the initial models from which to make the moulds. We will create sculptural tiles by making plaster moulds to create repeated tile pieces and decorate with different colours.

The first Bristol Refugee Hackday will take place on 24th and 25th June in Trinity Arts Centre, as part of Bristol Refugee Festival.

It aims to bring those with coding and technical skills, social media and web skills together with those who have experience of the asylum system and the needs of refugees and asylum seekers in Bristol; to use digital technology to help refugees and asylum seekers in Bristol and beyond.

“We want to plant the seeds to develop digital tools to help with some of the issues that asylum seekers and refugees in Bristol, and those who work to support them, face in their day to day lives.”

They are looking for people with relevant skills to attend and pooling their time, knowledge and skills, to work together in teams on new ways to address issues faced by asylum seekers, refugees and organisations that support them in the digital era.

These skills include

knowledge of refugee organisations

experience of seeking asylum in the UK

language skills

coding

web developing

data analytics

design

communications

social media

Hackdays or Hackathons are events that bring people with different skills together to develop digital projects around an issue or theme and usually take place over a weekend.

Around the world Hackathons to support refugees have generally been very successful, we believe Bristol has the skills, assets and organisational infrastructure to create something that can be useful in Bristol and beyond.

The Hackday is currently being supported by Trinity Community Initiatives and Connecting Bristol, but is looking for further sponsorship for this event and for follow on activities to build on the hackday.
