The World is Listening present this discussion on women in music

The World is Listening continue their quest to celebrate and represent women in music, and sparking the conversation about the cause and effect of the gender gap in the music industry.

They bring their second public discussion in Bristol to Fyfe Hall, upstairs in the Trinity Centre, debating the topic 'Female is not a genre', lead by 3 excellent guest speakers and our host, TWIL co-founder, Emma Hooper. The talk will be followed by an open forum where you can ask questions of our panel.

Expect a hands on discussion looking at the culture of musicians being labelled 'female' ('female drummer', 'female singer', 'female songwriter), the sexism behind the craze (as Caitlin Moran says, to figure out if some sexism is happening at you, ask if the same applies to men), and also the benefit, need or desire to identify as female in the music industry, or just, as a human.

Modern slavery remains widespread in the UK with the Home Office recently estimating that there are between 10,000 to 13,000 victims at any one time. It can affect men or women, boys or girls; it can affect people from any background, of any nationality including British nationals as well as those trafficked into the UK.

A film screening will be followed by a panel discussion with anti-slavery experts where people from all communities are invited to attend this free event to find out what slavery might look like in their area and what they can do about it.

Building a diverse, inclusive energy justice movement

Engaging communities in energy issues

Why are Bristol community energy groups mostly from a narrow section of a diverse community? Why does it seem so hard to get others involved?

Energy affects us all - we all use gas and electricity in our homes. There are many people and groups working to create a new energy system where energy is affordable for all, environmentally sustainable and community-controlled. But this energy movement is only effectively working with a small part of society. The communities most affected by fuel poverty are often not involved in discussions about energy, or have much to do with the groups working in this area. Many energy groups try to reach out and involve others but often with limited success. But with these important voices missing, how can we create a sustainable, inclusive energy system that works for us all?

The aim of this meeting is to bring diverse voices into the debate with people from different communities sharing what’s going on in their communities, what their priorities are and the difficulties they face in getting involved.

The event will mostly be organised into small groups so you can have more meaningful discussions. By learning more about each other's different communities, culture, struggles and their views about the community energy sector, we can change the way we work so we can better include everyone

Coming at you live and direct from east-central Bristol, just 13 days before the 2015 British General Election & local elections, we are pleased to invite you to the 7th Bristol Anarchist Bookfair – and there wont be a single lying, corrupt, austerity-enforcing, media-spinning politician in sight.

We’ll bring you probably Bristol’s largest, free, open to the public, political event in the month before the election. The Bookfair will include – 2 halls filled with stalls from local campaigns & groups to national anarchist distros & publishers; workshops & meetings to discuss & debate the key issues; the Radical History Zone down the road at Hydra Bookshop; activities in Trinity Garden’s outdoor permaculture green space; an outdoor Soap-Box for Ranters; a quality vegan cafe; an indoor kids space; and a few surprises too!
Conscious Frontiers presents The pioneering Spiritual Ecology conference

Join the New Consciousness Revolution!
Conscious Frontiers presents Future NOW, a one-day conference and charity fundraiser organised by Will Gethin and Joe Hoare at the Trinity Centre, Bristol, on Saturday 8th November. This event explores urgent solutions and mindful steps we need to take to sustain the Earth so we can secure bright, happy and sustainable lives for our children and grandchildren.

Featuring groundbreaking presentations, powerful performances and interactive breakout sessions with leading eco and spiritual pioneers Satish Kumar, Peter Owen Jones, Tim Freke, Chloe Goodchild and Joe Hoare – interspersed with sacred sounds and chants - Future NOW calls for an Inner Revolution.

It’s a call to become more mindful, more peaceful, more connected and more loving to ourselves, to each other and to the Earth. It urges us to change our “Descartes” inherited philosophical perspective of ourselves as separate from each other and the Earth and embrace our interconnectedness. It calls for us to grow beyond the selfish drives of our materialistic society and create a new way – moving from self interest to mutual interest, reciprocity and interdependence.

Throughout the day, conference participants are invited to explore how we can each make a difference and take urgent action to be the change in our daily lives. The breakout discussion sessions continuously echo and reflect on the question, “What am I going to do differently?”

Future NOW is an invitation to have a voice, to help shape our collective future and to take an active role in propagating the New Consciousness Revolution.

10 very earlybird tickets are now available starting at £30, till 21st August, rising to £55.
