Trinity is known for it’s boundry pushing music events, so it is really exciting to be able to bring you a programme of live music & club nights inspired by the musical heritage of the building. This year you'll see established and new artists both local and national who are all about pushing new ideas in music.

We’ve partnered with established promoters to bring you underground music that we know you are going to love. First up we had Bristol collective Young Echo who took over Fyfe Hall for their album launch back in February. Followed by Dubstep artist and promoter Pinch’s club night Subloaded celebrating the 100th release on his Tectonic label.

In May Trinity & Teaching in Dub will bring you Grime & Dubstep collective Bandulu Records with a massive line up ft Commodo, Rizla Teef, Kahn & Neek, Boofy, Hi5ghost. Plus the next generation of producers coming through, Drone, Lucy, Sir Hiss, Bengal Sound, with the big bad SGT Pokes on mic duties. With more exciting artists coming in the Autumn (keep your eyes peeled for updates).

If you like high energy new reggae music with a heavy dub twist, definitely grab tickets to see Resonators on 19th May. This is going be a get up and dance vibe all night.

It is really important to Trinity that we showcase Bristol talent as much as we can in our in house music programme so we are pleased Resonators will be supported by Bristol artists, Roots Factory featuring YT (worked with the likes of Mungos Hifi and Solo Banton) plus Papa Steve and his mighty Downbeat Melody Soundsystem and Numesa.

British singer and keyboardist.

Plus Special Guests

Hollie Cook combines her unique vocal talent with charming charisma to craft her own dynamic strand of lovers rock with enduring tropical vibes, weaving a path from her West London roots to an arena of diverse collaborations, critically acclaimed records, and iconic live appearances around the world. Cook’s ability to continually surprise, delight, and progress solidifies her position as one of the most exciting voices in reggae, and this is crystal clear on her third full-length and Merge debut, Vessel of Love.

Cook’s music career commenced early when family friend and punk trailblazer Ari Up asked Cook, age 19 at the time, to join the raucous ’70s feminist UK post-punk outfit The Slits for their reformation in 2006. She thrived on being thrown into the deep end and quickly cut her teeth with four years of back-to-back shows around the globe. Her talents recognized and nurtured, she then released her first solo album Hollie Cook in 2011, with a revered 2012 dub album follow-up, while singles such as “Milk & Honey” and “That Very Night” gained support from influential radio stations across Europe. After performing at The Stone Roses concert at Manchester’s Heaton Park at the personal request of Ian Brown, and her hypnotic performance on the prestigious Later…With Jools Holland, the way was paved for Hollie’s solo career to take off.

For someone who claimed “it’s hard for a band to really stand out and shake up the world,” Cook was certainly making a good go of proving herself wrong. By the end of 2014, Jamie T had requested her support for his Alexandra Palace show and featured her on his track “They Told Me It Rained.” Cook had also unleashed Twice via Mr. Bongo Records, and with Mike “Prince Fatty” Pelanconi once again aiding in the album’s conception, Cook confidently delivered with her follow-up to a well-received debut. In the wake of another successful release, Hollie hit the road with both The Skints and Protoje, and lent her vocal talent to Quantic’s “Shuffle Them Shoes” single, which also featured on his 1000 Watts album.

Acclaimed legendary producer Martin “Youth” Glover is Cook’s most recent collaborator, lending his venerable production expertise to Vessel of Love. His success with Killing Joke is only surpassed by his enduring reputation as one of the most prolific producers in the UK. “I’m very honored to work with Hollie, one of the most exciting emerging singers and writers over the last ten years,” says Glover. Hollie Cook sits in good company on his impressive production list, joining the likes of Paul McCartney, Tom Jones, The Verve, Primal Scream, Pink Floyd, and Depeche Mode. Glover describes Cook’s songs as “sharp lyrical observations and clever word play combined with an exquisite and informed pop sensibility,” and they are only elevated by Glover’s production on Vessel of Love, in particular the singles “Survive” and “Freefalling” as well as deeper cuts like “Ghostly Fading” and “Together.”Hollie Cook’s vibrant, spirited take on lovers rock radiates positivity, and with Vessel of Love, expect to see her on top of the tropical throne of pop in 2018!

Join Myfest as they celebrate the opening night of this city wide festival of al things performance

To celebrate our return,Mayfest have invited Ghanaian DJ and producer Katapila to kick off the festival with one of his marathon, euphoria-drenched DJ sets. Splicing the neo-traditional dance music styles of his youth in Accra with the up-tempo, bass-heavy, Roland 808 sounds of Detroit techno, Chicago acid and house, Katapila’s relentlessly joyful sets have become a thing of legend. Call in sick on Friday, or better still, bring your boss along to the party…

Expect killer selections adorned with splashes of digital synths, electronic percussion and vocal interjections that galvanise waves of full-blown euphoria wherever he plays. DJ Katapila’s new Aroo EP (Awesome Tapes From Africa) is the latest addition to the iconoclastic producer’s catalog of fast-paced, pan-West African-influenced dance music and follows his debut Trotro (2016) which ignited the international acclaim for his work, with the likes of The New York Times, Pitchfork, Resident Advisor and FACT heaping praise on his work.

Cutting his teeth in the early 90s as a mobile DJ at funerals across Ghana, Katapila began spontaneously inserting Ga- and Twi-language chants and raps into instrumental breaks of the well-trodden international house and techno radio hits he’d been playing. Performing on his Yamaha DD11 electronic drum pads during instrumental breaks, he also added his own percussion. He combined the microphone toasting and his rhythms with a sampler and invented new creations on the fly, establishing his trademark rough-edged dance sound which has now become ubiquitous in Ghana and other parts of West Africa.

Bristol homecoming show as part of Mayfest 2018 - celebrating release of debut album Heterogaster.

Formed in Bristol in 2015 by five longstanding friends, Mesadorm is the new collaborative project of Blythe Pepino formerly of London Art Pop trio, Vaults. Each member of Mesadorm is a high calibre performer and writer, bringing an array of musical concepts and timbres to the emotional landscape of Pepino's lyrics.

After a few years testing the mainstream stage with a major record deal Pepino has moved back to her roots as a leftfield rock and electronica songwriter. As well as drawing influence from contemporary electronic passions like Caribou, Grizzly Bear and Sylvan Esso, Pepino also draws from late 60s and early 70s folk and popular music such as the song-smithery of Carole King, Neil Young and Joni Mitchell. The song content for ‘Heterogaster’ is based around ideas of family, sex, trust and disconnection, using rich vocal harmonies, beautifully layered to musically represent these issues.

In Mesadorm’s debut album ‘Heterogaster’ listeners will find songwriter and lyricist Pepino in happy harmony with producer Aaron Zahl, fleshing out her musical world with his electronic soundscapes. Each musician then adds his or her unique musical touch to every song, resulting in a truly special and original sound. Having known each other since they were teenagers and weathered various phases of life and musical outfits, Zahl, Pepino, Palmer, Johnston and Silverston have a unique connection that plays out in their music with depth and assuredness. Their writing sits somewhere between the domestic observation of Suzanne Vega and the powerful, elemental other-worldliness of Bjork.

Blythe Pepino - Vocals/Keys

Aaron Zahl - Guitars/Keys/Bvs

Jo Silverston - Cello/Keys/Bvs

David Johnston - Bass/Keys/Bvs

“Blimey! That’s the sound of Mesadorm!” - Huw Stephens, BBC Radio 1

“Loving the sound of Mesadorm. I reckon the next 12 months could be chock-a-block for those guys" - BBC Introducing in the West

“Mesadorm have that uncanny ability to find that perfect line between pop and experimentation. They achieve a rare and colourful psychedelic minimalism that is strikingly engaging.” - Folk Radio UK

TrapHouseJazz from Southern swagger

BAM!BAM!BAM! presents

Masego

Southern swagger, Jamaican blood, with a South African name, Masego is a Gumbo of culture and creativity. His music is best described as TrapHouseJazz. He's the fusion of Pharrell, Michael Jackson and Jamie Fox both on and off the stage.

His journey began on YouTube. He put his 10,000 hours in live looping with his saxophone, beat machine and keyboard. Masego used to rip beats from SoundCloud's future beat and house producers and add saxophone over them then head to Instagram and dedicate the song to a curly hair beauty from his explore page. His soulful singing and his jazzy personality colored every track and heart and caught the attention of many producers like Kaytranada, Sounwav, and new greats like KRS and Medasin.

The Pink Polo EP with Texas Producer Medasin was the result of his SoundCloud antics. Their song Girls That Dance launched Masego and the TraphouseJaZZ band on a world tour. Japan, France, England, Germany and more got to experience Masego's unique live show. Girls that Dance found it's way to Jazzy Jeff who later reached out and invited Masego to his modern day XMen Mansion school for the gifted.

Masego nurtured his superpowers in Jazzy Jeff’s pool house, where legendary musicians and singers were constantly pouring in. Inspiration was high and the spirit of collaboration was high.

Jazzy Jeff's experience inspired him to work on hundreds of records. Masego decided to drop another project,

He called it Loose Thoughts, a project full a energetic singles, more developed song writing and his beloved saxophone.

The glo up continues. Masego assists company Roland, design an electronic saxophone, garners the respect of fellow live loopers like, Kimbra, Wayne Brady and Ed Sheehan, travels the world once again selling out venues and demoing new music. He starts 2 Secret companies in Virginia, buys a fleet of party buses, and hints at a new another new project. The world will be watching.

Tickets go live 10am Wednesday 21st March
