Feat. Ten Fé, Muncie Girls & 808INK

PRS Foundation's Momentum Music Fund presents a showcase of exciting experimental artists following a panel event.

Ten Fé
London-based Ten Fé, a five-piece consisting of songwriting duo Ben Moorhouse and Leo Duncan, with school mates Rob on bass, Johnny on keys and Alex on drums, have just released their debut album ‘Hit The Light’ to critical acclaim and returned from a rapturous European and US tour.

The band are known for a captivatingly eclectic set of songs, fusing a mix of Americana, Madchester baggy and soulful vocals with an intricate contemporary electronic underscore. Their Ewan Pearson-produced LP, recorded in Berlin, was lauded by NME, Line of Best Fit, Clash, Noisey, Consequence of Sound, and given 4-stars from The Guardian. Rolling Stone said their brand of “dark pop-electronica and organic Americana” was “exciting, expansive and heavily impassioned”.

They received the PRS Momentum Award in June 2016 and BPI Music Export Grant in February 2017, which helped the band to release their album on their own label through a distribution relationship with [PIAS] and tour abroad extensively. ‘Hit The Light’ was released in February 2017 and has been streamed over 20 million times, and appeared in Spotify’s most followed playlists. They have just returned from headlining the new bands stage at Austin City Limits where they played to a packed-out field of ardent fans. The band are currently recording their second album with new music coming out very soon!

Muncie Girls
Born in punk shows and dive bars to three driven teenagers in 2012, Muncie Girls embodies the classic punk rock story in a modern context. Fuelled by discontent and anxiety, they eloquently address issues of modern living as a self-aware young adult. The result is an ambitious and poignant rebellion against social norms that touches on everything from politics to interpersonal relationships.

808INK
808INK is an alternative music duo originating from London, consisting of producer 808Charmer and rapper Mumblez Black Ink.

The Momentum Music Fund is run by PRS Foundation using public funds from Arts Council England, support from PPL, and is in association with Spotify.

The ninth studio album from Calexico, ‘The Thread That Keeps Us’ is due out on January 26th through City Slang and provides a timely snapshot of the Arizona-bred band: a family portrait capturing their stylistic variety and unpredictability while still finding solace in limitless creativity.

In bringing the album to life, vocalist/guitarist Joey Burns and drummer John Convertino found a spiritual home in unusual surroundings—not in Arizona, but on the Northern California coast in a home-turned-studio called the Panoramic House. Built from debris and shipyard-salvaged timber—and dubbed “The Phantom Ship” by the band—the grandiose house and its edge-of-the-world-like ambience soon made their way into the songs. The specter of California also had a powerful effect: as both dream state and nightmare, its infinite duality is mirrored in the music, giving Calexico a new direction and new edge. With less polish and more grit than ever before, ‘The Thread That Keeps Us’ both honors enduring traditions and reveals Calexico’s supreme confidence in songwriting, ultimately setting a whole new standard for the band.

Mexican Institute of Sound

Camilo Lara was simply creating holiday mixes for friends but they convinced him to take his songs intothe studio. At the time, he was busy working in the music business and doing musical supervision forfilms such as “Y Tu Mama Tambien” which lead to his first Grammy nomination, but found time to startrecording at night and through those humble beginnings, Mexican Institute of Sound (M.I.S) was born.

Thanks to the critical and commercial success of his breakthrough albums ‘Pinata’ and ‘Soy Sauce’, theaccidental rock star now tours the world performing at major festivals including Coachella andLollapalooza. While early M.I.S. songs combined a variety of vintage samples into instrumental tracks,‘Politico’ features entirely original songs recorded with a live band and vocals. Camilo is currentlyworking on his next M.I.S. Album.

In 2012 Camilo was asked to produce an album for Los Angeles Azules that was to include their greatesthits spanning their 30-year history. The album, “Como Te Voy a Olvidar" went to #1 in Mexico for 79weeks and was nominated for a Grammy. Camilo is currently in the final stages of producing another LosAngeles Azules Album.

English singer-songwriter and musician

A seasoned performer on the Irish music scene, acoustic singer/songwriter Jamie Lawson eventually found fame when one of his tracks became an overnight YouTube sensation. Born and raised in Plymouth, England, Lawson picked up the guitar at age eight and, influenced by Crowded House, R.E.M., and Leonard Cohen, began his musical career in a covers band while still in school. He discovered his voice at age 17, and spent the next few years performing across the Irish club circuit with the likes of Gemma Hayes, Glen Hansard, and Tom Baxter.

He released his debut album, Last Night Stars, on his own Allotment Recordings label in 2003, though it wasn't until his second album seven years later that he would find greater success. The Pull of the Moon was released in 2010, but it took off the following year when the YouTube video of one of its tracks, "Wasn't Expecting That," was played on The Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show on Today FM, Ireland's biggest station. The song became the station's most requested track, and launched his chart career in his adopted homeland. In 2015, Lawson became the first act signed to Ed Sheeran's Warner Bros. imprint Gingerbread Records. His self-titled third LP arrived later that year. After tours with Sheeran and One Direction, he returned to the studio to record a follow-up. His fifth album, Happy Accidents, featured the single "Can't See Straight" -- co-written with Sheeran and Snow Patrol's Johnny McDaid -- and arrived in September 2017.

Andy & The Odd Socks: Andy Day, star of children’s TV, presents his brand new rock and roll band for kids. Widely known for his antics tackling dinosaurs, baby animals and being on safari, much loved children’s TV presenter Andy Day has another string to his bow. This is Andy Day the pop star! Andy has shown his musical credentials before via his hugely popular dinosaur raps, which have amassed a whopping 12 million views on YouTube and is undoubtedly one of the most popular children’s personalities in the UK.

Andy, and his brilliant band The Odd Socks, are an authentic band for all the family to enjoy. Created for young children with huge imaginations between the ages of 3 and 8, older children and parents have their favourite songs too. The fun packed live show is a unique and contemporary mix of rock, pop, rap and funk and was launched over the summer at family festivals including Glastonbury, Camp Bestival, Carfest for Children In Need, Port Eliot and Shambala. The reaction has been amazing, and word has spread fast with the band pulling in big crowds at all their shows.

The debut album ‘Who Invited This Lot?’ will be released on CD on the 20th October. With hilarious songs about Aliens, Rapping Robots, Dinosaur Footballers, Ninja Pigs and a Groovy Hoover, this is fun for all the family, and the most essential CD for any family car journey. Guaranteed to make any school run a much more enjoyable journey….or your money back! Cakes and Food
