A Blaze of Feather are pleased to announce details of their debut album release, ‘A Blaze of Feather, through bandmate Ben Howard’s new independent label, Hell Up Records. It is released on the 30th June 2017.
A Blaze of Feather will be swiftly followed by their first live shows, a mini tour of the South West of England, in preparation for a Summer of festival appearances. Tickets go on pre-sale from Thursday 1st June and on general sale from Friday 2nd June. Further details are listed below.
Earlier this Spring, an unknown name started cropping up prominently on the British Summer festival posters: “A Blaze of Feather”. Citadel, Latitude, Boardmasters, all had this curious name, front and centre of their posters. Unsurprisingly the internet churned went into overdrive.
British musician Ben Howard, not one for making too much noise on social media, started retweeting references to this mythical A Blaze of Feather, which, in turn, became a source of great consternation amongst his fans on both Twitter and Reddit. Is it Ben under a new guise? Is this the multi-platinum selling musician’s new band? Why has he broken an extended silence to draw attention to a random band name?
The truth is yes, and yet the truth is also no. A Blaze of Feather is the music of Ben’s long-standing guitarist and friend Mickey Smith, aided by the same, sprawling six-piece band as Ben, including ex Hiss Golden Messenger drummer, Kyle Keegan. That the music shares a similar atmosphere and sonic world should come as little surprise. It was produced by Mickey, Ben and fellow guitarist Nat Wason in a makeshift studio on the west coast of Cornwall, and mixed by Nicolas Vernhes (The War on Drugs/Daughter).
Support for this show will come from Tender Central, whose debut single Wake Me Up was released earlier this year and is the project of fellow band mate India Bourne who performs with both Ben Howard and A Blaze of Feather. The music merges a delicate ear for musical arrangement with notes of electronica that both recall and evolve the sounds of ethereal electronic fore bearers Massive Attack, Lamb, Zero 7, Roni Size and more recently London Grammar in its sonic Intent.
Favourited by BBC Radio 1's Phil Taggart and Apple Music's Beats1 Julie Adenug, the Devon born classically trained cellist has an album's worth of material in the bank and will provide the perfect opener for A Blaze of Feather.

Solo is one of the UKs leading Reggae MCs, regularly touring across Europe and beyond with the likes of Mungos Hifi and Jahtari. Known for his confident and versatile vocal style, as well as diverse and conscious lyrical content, he is also the host of the mighty Lions Den at Boomtown festival. On the night he will be backed by The Uppercut Band, who have been playing and recording with several veteran vocalists such as Luciano, Big Youth and Horseman.
Aries Feat. Cheshire Cat -
Recently crowned Best Jungle DJ at the We Love Jungle Awards in Leeds, Aries has been mashing up the club raves this season and has a big summer of festivals ahead from Boomtown to Glastonbury, from Eden to Shambala.
Cheshire Cat -
Outta Birmingham, Cheshire Cat will be on hosting duties for Aries on the night. Having been in the game for over 20 years, his background lies in sound system culture having been an active member and mc for sounds such as love injection, Ital Warrior and Love Tonic.
Hylu & Deemas J (Unit 137) -
These two are part of the rough and tough collective Unit 137, coming outta Lewisham, South-East London. Unit 137 have been mashing up dances year after year and growing stronger to this day. The full crew consist of an array of talent from various genres - Ed West, Kosher, Jago, Sleepy Time Ghost, Zico, Galak Spiritual, Ghost Writerz & A.P Grimshaw, these guys always bring the vibes. Drawn together by a shared passion for conscious, forward thinking bass music.
Earl Gateshead -
Former selector and leader of Trojan sound system, Earl is living legend of the scene having truly done the rounds over the years, nationally and internationally. Earl began DJing in 1979 when he played reggae records between punk bands in Brixton and was heavily influenced by the Trojan releases of the time. Recent shows include Glastonbury, Bestival & Rototom festival and club events at London’s biggest venue; Fabric. With such a distinguished career and fantastic attitude Earl has become a figurehead in UK Reggae and in 2002 he was invited to give a lecture at the prestigious Red Bull Music Academy in Sao Paulo.
HOTSTEPPAS (Reggae/Bashment/Dancehall) -
Since forming in early 2016, Hotsteppas have gone from strength to strength. With a load of shows now under their belts, they have been Hotsteppin’ all over the place. With some high profile festival appearances across the summer at Boomtown, One Love, Secret Garden Party, Wonderfields to name but a few, they will be coming to Trinity to showcase fresh material from upcoming releases on the 22nd.
The LBJBs (Funk) -
Formed in late 2014 and through playing every week formed the house band at The Leftbank where they now host the hugely popular Thursday jam. Dropping heavy funk tunes with their own twist keeping the dancefloor full and are now breaking out to larger audiences, most recently supporting the Craig Charles Funk and Soul Club at Thekla Bristol and Cheese and Grain, Frome.

As events unfold in escalating absurdity, it will take all of Figaro's wiles to explain away squashed geraniums, boys dressed as girls, and contractual marriage obligations. Will contentment and happiness ever reign again in this household?
Award-winning opera company Opera in a Box bring you their production of Mozart’s "The Marriage of Figaro". Following their recent NODA award for ‘Innovative Production’ for their winter performances of Puccini’s "La bohème", they have brought together a cast and crew of some of the finest young talents in the south-west, both on and off stage, promising for an extremely enjoyable and entertaining show.

]]>In any relationship, difference is the dynamic that makes magic happen. In musical partnerships, it’s often the crucial friction that makes creative sparks fly but, a fraction too much friction, and everything’s likely to go up in smoke.
Lou Rhodes and Andy Barlow understand difference more than most. They’re the first to admit that when they got together their diametrically opposing aesthetics – Lou’s devotion to The Song, Andy’s obsession with all things beats-driven and electronic and his complete disinterest in vocals – created problems. Often, the very glue that bound them together nearly saw them come unstuck. But those differences also bred a mutual respect and resulted in one of the most genuinely genre-bending dance albums of the mid-90s. In 1996, when drum’n’bass ruled, Lamb’s eponymous debut LP up-ended the rigid idea of that form by warming its distinctively chilly, tacheometric chatter with injections of jazz, classical, blues, techno and hip hop and giving it an intensely personal, highly emotional charge. The sweetly stuttering ‘Cottonwool’ and divine ‘Gorecki’ singles showed that drum’n’bass could do much more than just make feet move quicker – it could make hearts beat faster, too.

The sultry neo-psychedelic sound of the Black Angels came together in spring 2004. Hailing from Austin, Texas, they initially comprised Stephanie Bailey (drums), Christian Bland (guitar), Alex Maas (vocals), Jennifer Raines (organ), and Nathan Ryan (bass), and took their name from a Velvet Underground classic, "The Black Angel's Death Song." The band's self-titled debut EP was released in late 2005. After a string of North American dates in winter 2006, they readied themselves for a performance at the annual South by Southwest Music Conference in March. Their first couple of full-length albums -- April 2006's Passover and April 2008's Directions to See a Ghost -- were both, in the main, recorded at Erik Wofford's Austin, Texas-based Cacophony Recorders, a studio also used by other local and notable indie rock acts such as White Denim and Voxtrot. By the time the second record was issued, Raines had been replaced by multi-instrumentalist Kyle Hunt and the Black Angels were beginning to create a name for themselves on the live circuit among fans of '60s-inspired psych rock. In late 2008, they performed as the backing band for former 13th Floor Elevators frontman Roky Erickson on a series of dates across the West Coast of the U.S. Next, in 2010, they recorded a couple of collaborative tracks with Unkle, one of which -- "With You in My Head" -- appeared on the soundtrack to that summer's multi-million-grossing The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. This large-scale exposure led to their third album, September 2010's Phosphene Dream, becoming something of a breakthrough record when it hit the Top 50 of the Billboard chart immediately following its release. Its companion piece, the Phosgene Nightmare EP, arrived in 2011, and in 2012, following Ryan's departure, Rishi Dhir of Elephant Stone became an auxiliary bandmember, filling in on guitar and occasionally bolstering their live sound with sitar. Released in 2013, Indigo Meadow was produced and mixed by Grammy-nominated fellow Texan John Congleton, and that release was soon followed by its own companion EP, April 2014's Clear Lake Forest. Following a four-year gap, the band finally released its fifth long-player in 2017. Death Song was the Black Angels' heaviest to date, having been recorded during the turbulent U.S. election process.
