Sundara Karma announce their biggest headline show to date in September, including The Trinity Centre!

Support from:

Freak

The Night Café

Latest single ‘Loveblood’ was recently unveiled as Annie Mac’s ‘Hottest Record In The World’ on Radio 1. The track follows their ‘In New Music We Trust’ playlisted single ‘A Young Understanding’ and further demonstrates Sundara Karma’s extraordinary ability to build arena sized, widescreen rock songs.

Led by charismatic frontman Oscar Lulu, Sundara Karma are masters at crafting bright, panoramic indie rock whose bruised-heart lyrics deal with young romance and a yearning to escape small town mundanity.

Having spent 2015 firmly establishing themselves as ones-to-catch on the live circuit and festival tents, their captivatingly intense live shows have truly won the hearts of their crowd, building a dedicated cult teenage fan base. They have already completed a string of dates across Europe supporting Wolf Alice, embarked on their own sold out headline UK tour and joined Nothing But Thieves on their April tour. ‘Loveblood’ is sure to be the next step in what is shaping up to be an incredible year for the Reading four-piece, whose eagerly anticipated debut album will be released later in 2016.

Talking about ‘Loveblood’, frontman Oscar Lulu says: “The song is about fate, love and tragedy. A kind of Romeo and Juliet inspired thing. It’s also inspired by Oscar Wilde’s short story ‘Lord Arthur Savile’s Crime’. Mysteries of the unexplained is something that has a huge appeal for me.”

Since forming Leeds in 2009 Submotion Orchestra have carved out their own special place in the UK's ever-changing musical landscape. The 7 piece band's fusion of bass heavy electronica, jazz, soul and much more besides has made them a favourite of the likes of Radio One's Gilles Peterson, Trevor Nelson and Jo Whiley whilst their live show has seen them play festivals around the world and sell out venues such as London's famous KOKO.

Now following two critically acclaimed albums, Finest Hour and Fragments, Submotion Orchestra return bigger, brighter and bolder than ever with Alium, their first album for Counter Records. Released on November 3rd, Alium sees the band in expansive mood as the interplay between their electronic and acoustic sounds has become more natural than ever whilst Ruby Wood's vocals continue to find new levels of emotion.

Written over two years in the remote Welsh countryside with just 'passing sheep and a rusty ping-pong table for company' and recorded in Brighton, Alium has been a true group effort with every band member involved in the writing and recording process, something that is reflected in the album's varied nature.

From neon synth strafed opener Awakening, to the bruising 21st century soul of Time Will Wait, the tense cinematic drama of Bring Back The Wolf, The Hounds’ late night/early morning jazz workout and the unashamedly big pop moment that is Trust Lust, Alium may be a dazzlingly eclectic record showcasing the band’s myriad talents, but thanks to producer Ruckspin's deft touch remains a satisfyingly coherent whole.

With a busy summer schedule that will see the band play over a dozen festivals in 7 different countries and a full UK tour lined up for later in the year Alium looks set to cap a triumphant year for the band as they continue to push the boundaries of what an ‘electronica’ band can and should be.

They’ve played Coachella and SXSW, opened for the Rolling Stones and appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and The Late Show with David Letterman –and all with only one full length album, Half the City, under their belt. Follow-up Sea of Noise is out in September and will, the six-piece say, feature “the heart-pounding infusion of old-school R&B, soul, funk and rock that St Paul & The Broken Bones have built their reputation on”. They are, says The Independent, “renowned for going big on their live shows” with frontman Paul ‘ St Paul’ Janeway “melding a frenzied theatricalism with passionate slow-swaying soul”.
Half The City is the compelling full-length Single Lock/Thirty Tigers debut of the Birmingham, Alabama-based sextet, who have already created a maelstrom of interest with their roof-raising live shows and self-released four-song 2012 EP. Produced by Ben Tanner of Alabama Shakes, and recorded and mixed in the storied R&B mecca of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, the album harkens back to the region’s classic soul roots while extending the form with electrifying potency.

“When St Paul and the Broken Bones emerged from their small-town-Alabama home and started playing shows, it was almost as if a fully realised group of old pros had stepped out of a time capsule from its Muscle Shoals’ heyday” (Village Voice).

On Half the City, the band’s debut, “St Paul (aka Paul Janeway) leads the charge of the soul-band, delivering truly amazing, gut-wrenching vocal performances”(PopMatters).

Grit, elemental rhythm, tight-as-a-drumhead playing, and a profound depth of feeling: these are the promises of a great soul band. And St. Paul & The Broken Bones deliver on those promises.
