Potent blend of Mercury Prize nominated art-rock, indie-pop, and post-punk

Porridge Radio have become a vital new voice in alternative music. Their barbed wit, lacerating intensity, and potent blend of art-rock, indie-pop, and post-punk is like little else around and led to their 2020 album, Every Bad, being nominated for the Mercury Music Prize.

Feelings of joy, fear, and endlessness define Porridge's past 2 years. A time spent being championed by major music sites without being able to experience any of it in the real world. In their latest album, Porridge have distilled their myriad of influences into a sound that is unequivocally theirs. With a trip-hop crunch, ghostly piano, and gloriously widescreen distortion, the latest release tests the musicians' limits and explores a newfound playfulness within their music.

Produced by Chris Seefried and featuring a stellar band including former Miles Davis pianist Deron Johnson, Lady's forthcoming album, Black Acid Soul, presents a wholly fresh take on the jazz vocal idiom. 2020 single, Blackbird, is a stirring interpretation of Nina Simone's powerful civil rights anthem. The 18-piece, all star, big band create music that is both heavy and beautiful, pushing the boundaries of live hip hop. Abstract Orchestra explore original samples used in hip hop joints, orchestrated across the ensemble, masterfully reinterpreting the music of hip hop greats, such as J Dilla and MADVILLAIN. The group have toured and recorded with the likes of MF DOOM, Slum Village, and Illa J and supported Yasiin Bey, Talib Kweli, and The Zulu Nation.

Taking influences from Quincy Jones, Lalo Schifrin, and David Shire, the arranger, Rob Mitchell sits somewhere between Madlib and Quincy Jones. With classic aspects of big band writing, a focus on improvisation, and mad respect for hip hop, this set is high-energy and high-octane head nods from start to finish.

While not necessarily a household name, Brian Jackson is revered among musicians and DJs. Instrumental in the development of contemporary jazz, jazz-funk, and neo-soul, the multi-instrumentalist is an inspiration for generations of hip-hop and EDM producers. His soulful sounds have been featured by legends such as Kendrick Lamar (Poe Man's Dreams) and Common (The People).

Over the course of his career, Jackson has worked with greats such as Stevie Wonder, Roy Ayers, and Earth, Wind and Fire; more recently building on this pool of talent with A Tribe called Quest's Al Shaheed Muhammad, vocalist Gregory Porter, and legendary bassist Charnett Moffett.

Jackson looks to both the present and the past for inspiration to honour the ancient tradition of the griot - the African troubadour of truth. In this tradition, Jackson tells the stories of how many of his best-loved pieces came to light.

Injury Reserve was originally a trio, consisting of rappers Ritchie With a T and Stepa J. Groggs, and producer Parker Corey. Their early mixtapes earned them underground buzz and attention, which they capitalised on for their self-titled, debut album in 2019.

The hip hop group's momentum was put on hold in 2020, when Groggs tragically passed away. Their sophomore album, By The Time I Get To Phoenix, was largely completed with Groggs' contributions, before his passing. The title pays homage to a song that's been covered countless times, which aligns with the group's ethos and approach to creating music. Injury Reserve pull inspiration from several styles and eras of hip hop, running everything through their own lens, and putting a distinct and cohesive sound across their references.
