When she went solo as Self Esteem in 2017, it was an opportunity for out-and-out autonomy, shedding past skins and striving towards glossy, behemoth pop.

The duo of Josh Greacen and Archie Blagden crept out of Somerset in 2020 with a sound that pushed the eerie psychedelia of the area’s musical history (Portishead, Massive Attack, Glastonbury Festival as a concept) through the sharp lens of contemporary paranoia. Formative mixtapes Vol.I, Vol.II and collaborations with the likes of Moonchild Sanelly and IDK have touched a nerve ever since, with the band’s signature blend of surreal character-studies, waspish humour, and serious undertones surpassing 60 million streams and selling out tours around the world - including shows with Glass Animals & easy life.

Connecting the unlikely dots between hip-hop, blockbuster pop and bugged-out storytelling, it’s a chemistry that explodes on debut album Welcome The Night. Here is a humorous soundtrack to the end of the world, but one designed to allow a disenfranchised generation some comfort amidst life’s incoherence. Despite such existential questions, there appears at least one clear answer: increasingly, it’s impossible to mistake a Sad Night Dynamite song for anyone else.

Before forming late in 2007, all four members studied at Malmo’s prestigious Academy Of Music. As Adam points out, this has ensured that the communication between them “is like lightning”, but for all their musical sophistication, there’s another key reason why Royal Republic rule: each member is one-hundred-percent in touch with his inner Viking.  “My whole education at university was about holding back”, explains Per, who has a masters degree in classical percussion.  “It was always: ‘keep it down’; ‘cherish your sound’, but I just wanted to hit things harder and louder. When Royal Republic came along, it was a great release.”“And the same for me”, says Adam. “After years of having to be perfectly in-time and perfectly in-tune, being in this this band has helped me to drag out all the grit, all the real emotion.”One can certainly hear that on “Walk!”, another of Weekend Man’s plentiful stash of potential singles. Adam clearly relishes wrapping his tonsils around the song’s insistent command to, well, Walk!. With its ballsy, thrill-a-second riffing, you could say the song is a masterclass in simplicity. “We had to tread carefully so as not to stomp all over its initial genius”, says Hannes. “Is Walk! particularly smart? No. Is it freaking awesome? I’d say so!

Tread is simultaneously sleek, melodic, and danceable; nostalgic but modern; with nods to sounds and styles that have been reimagined through the producer’s lens.

An integral part of Ross From Friends’ music has always been the 3-man live show – comprising of Felix, Jed Hampson, and John Dunk - that delivers a killer blend of live musicians (guitar, keys, and sax) and electronics.

With a haunting but beautiful voice, Roisin's unusual vocals carry the trippy sound of her solo material whilst putting her own inimitable style on every single song that she writes and produces.
