Young people from our Making Tracks project performed at our Annual Festival of Light and, they were great.

Making Tracks is our collaborative music making project with ACE and Basement– giving young people the opportunity to learn new skills in music creation. Trinity offers 121 and small group music sessions alongside industry workshops and opportunities to perform at Trinity events.

Xyzelle, Sealvia and Chantaleaze from project partners ACE (Aspiration, Creation, Elevation) performed two songs, followed by Trinity student Louis Stone who performed his original songs using both his acoustic and electric guitars.

Playing to an energetic and supportive crowd the students performed cracking sets and roused the crowds ready for local dub DJ Dutchie and the ever fantastic Bristol Reggae Orchestra – well done to them.

This year we welcome over 800 people through the gates who came to watch the aerial performances, the fantastic firework display from Onj, a very warm bonfire from Woodsy, and the live music in our main hall.

Thanks to everyone that makes the event happen, from staff; to volunteers; to artists; to traders and of course all of you who attended.

The Festival of Light is a free event supported in part by public donations. This year we raised over £1100 in donations meaning that we can continue to run events like The Festival of Light so everyone can enjoy.

Ibibio Sound Machine’s pulsating first single ‘Let’s Dance’ and also ʻTalking Fish’ earned places on the BBC 6 Music playlist. The follow-up to their self-titled debut album is ‘Uyai’, which means beauty in the Ibibio language and refers to the strength and free spirit of women in general and, in particular, the courage of the women in Eno’s family. ‘Uyai’ purveys a darker, edgier tone to their first effort, which the band says, “maybe reflects the difficult journey the band took from making the first album to completing the second one”. Ibibio Sound Machine is comprised of Max Grunhard on saxophone and synth, John McKenzie on bass, Ghanaian guitar legend Alfred ‘Kari’ Bannerman, Jose Joyette on drums, Brazilian Anselmo Netto on percussion, synth/horn men Tony Hayden & Scott Baylis and vocalist Williams.

Music can often be directly rooted to one location – murky electronics belong to London nightbus rides; smoke-filled saxophone solos evoke images of dusky New York jazz bars – but there’s a lot to be said about music with a universal appeal, a kind which refuses to be pinned down to one specific time and place.

Paris-based multi-instrumentalist Vincent Fenton is a specialist in the latter. As FKJ, aka French Kiwi Juice, his loose and colourful arrangements could soundtrack anything: a house party in Hong Kong, a road trip through the Australian outback, a post-midnight walk alone across moonlit European streets. It’s all there on his 2017 self-titled debut album, which flits between fidgety electronics, smooth blues and pristine pop, all with the flick of a switch.

FKJ’s universal appeal goes a long way to explaining his current, impressive border-crossing rise. With every song on his debut racking up millions Spotify plays, his shows sell out in Asia, Europe, Australia, NZ and America, and his unique, spontaneity-first live delivery – frog-leaping between guitars, keys, sax, vocals and more – is capable of translating to both intimate and giant venues.

Fenton’s journey began as a teenager, where he started to compose songs in his bedroom, and later in-between working as a cinema sound engineer in France. Self-taught and self-starting, he learnt the ropes on countless instruments, before finding an early home on future-facing French collective / label Roche Musique.

2012 EP Time for a Change set a stall for slick, sophisticated, cinematic pop. But if this release got by on an anything-goes approach, 2017’s French Kiwi Juice goes even further. Throughout, there’s a sense that no idea, however ambitious, is dismissed out of hand by Fenton. And the title of the record’s closing track acts as something of a mantra for his work: ‘Why Are There Boundaries’.

Two years after he left us celebrate all that is weird, wonderful and Bowie with Bristol's own 60 piece Fantasy Orchestra!

Bowie fashion; costumes, lights, extravagance will abound aplenty. The Orchestra, with a full choir, in full regalia, will be bringing to life a multitude of Bowie classics and lesser known gems.

Come dressed as your favourite Bowie and bring the spirit of the many incarnations of DB!

Jacob Collier is a British singer, arranger, composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist based in London. In 2012, his homemade split-screen video covers of popular songs, such as Stevie Wonder's "Don't You Worry 'bout a Thing", began to go viral on YouTube.

Collier's style fuses elements of jazz, a cappella, groove, folk, electronic music, classical music, gospel, soul and improvisation, and often features extreme use of reharmonisation. In 2014, Collier signed to Quincy Jones' management company and began working on his one-man, audio-visual live performance vehicle, designed and built at MIT in Boston.

In 2016 Collier released his debut album, In My Room, which was entirely self-recorded, arranged, performed and produced in his home in London. In February 2017, Collier was awarded two Grammys for his arrangements of "Flintstones" and "You And I", both from the album.

This FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 2 Jacob will release “With The Love In My Heart” the first single from the first project of his upcoming four album campaign.

One of the most respected figure in hip-hop culture, KRS-One is attributed as to be being one of the core pioneers of the genre’s growth from the projects of New York to being the worldwide genre it is today. Having rose to prominence with the group Boogie Down Productions and later on as a solo artist in his own right, KRS-One has continued to fly the flag for hip-hop as a medium for social and political discussion. He is often referred to as one of the greatest MCs of all time.

After first appearing in 2013 on Rejjie Snow’s ‘Rejovich’ EP on track ‘1992’, Loyle’s name started to make the rounds, not least to mention the track being picked up by Majestic Casual and has racked up over 700k views to date. Following the release of the ‘A Little Late’ EP, Loyle has gone on to work with the likes of Kate Tempest, Maverick Sabre, Tom Misch and multiple others, all in preparation for releases in 2015.

With three successful UK tours now under his belt with Joey Bada$$, Kate Tempest and Atmosphere, Loyle is set to make some serious moves on the UK circuit and abroad, with strong support coming from all over Europe, the US and Australia. Support in the UK has come from all areas, being championed on Radio 1Xtra by DJ Semtex and Phil Taggart, Huw Stephens and Lauren Laverne at Radio 1. His latest single with Kate Tempest was added to 6Music’s B-list and then bumped up to the A-List immediately after a week and has not stopped being played.

The new year looks extremely promising for the young rapper, expect to be seeing a lot more from him in the coming months.
