With Self Esteem’s recent sold-out gig and Wet Leg coming up (21 Apr), we thought we'd take a moment to reflect on some of the best acts who've played at Trinity on their breakthrough tours in the last few years.

Alt J (2012)

Indie pop makers Alt-J came to perform live to a sell-out crowd the day after they won the Mercury Prize for what was to be one of their last intimate gigs.

Ezra Collective (2019)

London jazz collective Ezra Collective fuse Afrobeat, Hip-Hop and Soul to create a distinct sound. Known for “pioneering the new-wave of UK jazz music” (Boilerroom) their sell-out gig was yet another sell-out in 2019.

Freddie Gibbs (2019)

American rapper Freddie Gibbs is known for his technical proficiency and provocative lyrics as well has two collaborations with critically acclaimed Madlib.

One of the most popular rappers to come out of the UK in recent years, Loyle Carner played here following the release of his second album ‘Not Waving, But Drowning’.

Mick Jenkins (2019)

American rapper Mick Jenkins had released two far reaching albums, The Healing Component (2016) and Pieces of a Man (2018) prior to playing to a very ecstatic hip-hop loving audience.

Kokoroko (2020)

London-based eight-piece musical group Kokoroko play a fusion of Jazz and Afrobeat and came to us just before Lockdown restrictions in Mar 2020. Despite this, they are making waves in the UK Nu-Jazz scene.

Joy Crookes (2021)

An essential new voice in the burgeoning UK Neo-Soul scene, Joy Crookes played an incredible sold-out show in November last year.

Self-Esteem (2022)

The crowd jumped to the performance of I Do This All The Time and we think this will be a gig that forges itself in many memories. We are sure this will be one of her last gigs playing to smaller crowds.

To celebrate our 7th birthday we have gathered a tasty line-up in our beloved Trinity Centre, powered by the impeccable Sinai Soundsystem.

Needing very little introduction, Timedance’s commander in chief Batu will take the decks in his inimitable style and will be accompanied by two very special-guest on this equally special occasion : k means and Helena Hauff.

In the months that followed the re-opening of dancefloors, k means has consistently blown us away. Expect a mind-bending voyage full of experimental bass music, jungle and footwork excursions delivered in a jaw dropping and imaginative fashion.

Helena Hauff has been a long-time Timedance favourite, the Hamburg resident needs little introduction. Her masterful blends of icy and futuristic electro as well as bass heavy EBM-leaning techno have seen her rise into being one of the most in demand DJs from the underground in the world. None of the imitators come close, she's one of the best to do it.

So is 7 the age of reason ? You decide. One thing for sure is that this one is not to be missed, see you on the dancefloor.

*It's going to be loud. We recommend bringing earplugs.

*Be nice, bring an open mind and dance. If something is bothering you tell a bouncer or member of staff.

Mixed with driving undercurrents of drums, guitar, and keyboards, Tide Lines' innate understanding of the elevational power of music allows them to drive their escapist lyrics into a unique respectful sound.

With songs formed in the heart and hearth of the folk music that Gaelic-speaking Robertson had grown up with, Tide Lines showcase music that reaches far beyond cultural boundaries. New album, An Ocean Full of Islands, coming soon.

The beloved musical project of Kate Stables

This Is the Kit

This Is The Kit is the musical project of Kate Stables and long time collaborator Jesse Vernon, who are based in both Bristol and Paris. After appearing on Sunday Best Recordings’ 2006 compilation album ‘Folk Off’, the band received high praise from Drowned In Sound, and have subsequently been embraced by BBC radio for their quintessential ‘Britishness’. From 6Music, DJs Lauren Laverne, Radcliffe and Maconie, Marc Riley, Guy Garvey, Cerys Matthews, and Mary Anne Hobbs, and at Radio 1, Huw Stephens, Jen and Ally, and Phil Taggart have all given the band airplay.

On their third album, ‘Bashed Out’, the band collaborated with Aaron Dessner, best known for his work in The National. Indeed the record features the instrumental talents of not only the touring members of the band (Rozi Plain, Jesse Vernon, Jamie Whitby-Coles), but also session players from the Brooklyn music scene, including Bryce Dessner, Thomas Bartlett (Doveman, The Gloaming), Matt Barrick (The Walkmen) and Ben Lanz (Beirut, The National). The music remains quintessentially British, in a one-of-a-kind eccentric manner, and rooted in folk, but also encompasses elements of psychedelia, alternative rock, and electronic textures and sensibilities.

This is The Kit return to Trinity following performing live at BBC6 Music Festival Fringe February 2016.
