After nearly 20 years of raging against oppression and injustice, it is sometimes easy to forget that this multi-cultural British crew are also one of the most musically inventive, explosively exciting live bands on the planet.
Now, their strongest line up yet combines their trademark fusion of punk rock, electronic beats, reggae, bhangra and hip-hop that has attracted many famous fans, from Primal Scream to Radiohead, Sinead O’Connor to Chuck D, all former touring partners and studio collaborators.

]]>In 2019, ADF reissued their Mercury Prize-nominated 1998 classic, Rafi’s Revenge garnering ecstatic reviews and the messages within it seeming as relevant today as the day they were written. The group released their ninth studio album, Access Denied, in 2020 The album showcases ADF in full-spectrum mode; with tracks going from tough, jungle punk to meditative orchestras. With guest spots from Greta Thunberg, 47Soul, Ana Tijoux, and Stewart Lee, ADF continue their sonic opposition to the powers that be and kick harder and higher than ever.

So, when they were finally reunited to rehearse for a livestream gig in the dark days of 2021, there were some understandable nerves at how it might go. ]]>The team at Colston Hall bring Ariel Pink the king of pop perversion to Trinity Centre. Across its 17 tracks and 69 minutes, new album pom pom is unfiltered Ariel: a Pied Piper of the absurd, with infectious tales of romance, murder, frog princes and Jell-O. The record sees the Los Angeles native strike it out alone, returning to the solo moniker he has adopted for well over a decade – and this could well be his magnum opus.
Los Angeles-based one-man band and pied-piper of the absurd Ariel Pink’s lo-fi, Baroque music was first discovered by indie group Animal Collective, who began releasing volumes of Ariel Pink home recordings on their Paw Tracks label. 2004’s ‘The Doldrums’ came first, and gained Pink both critical acclaim and a cult following.
Having formed the band Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti in order to bring his recordings to life, he signed with indie label 4AD late in 2009, and the next year released his highest-selling record to date, ‘Before Today’. His 2014 release, ‘Pom Pom’, saw Pink return to his solo moniker, and features songs written with 60s novelty record producer and musician, Kim Fowley.
Ariel Pink began songwriting at the age of ten, with early influences deriving from pop acts such as Hall & Oates, Michael Jackson, 10cc, Fleetwood Mac, and David Bowie. After a stint studying visual art at the California Institute of the Arts,Pink switched his artistic focus to songcraft for good.

Area 11 are a British four-piece band, who to date have released two studio albums, three EPs & 4 stand alone singles in 2019. Both of their albums ‘All The Lights In The Sky’ and ‘Modern Synthesis’ have enjoyed great chart successes. The group’s genre remains hard to define as their music ranges from sweeping electronic soundscapes to dance-rock anthems to understated acoustic songs. Suitably, their songs range in concept from the cerebral and abstract to the nostalgic and personal. After multiple sell-out Bristol shows, the band return to the city in for the final date of their UK tour.

THE last 18 months have seen the talented Brazilian-born artist ANNA reach new heights with productions such as ‘Hidden Beauties’ and her powerful remix of Jon Hopkins ‘Singularity’, garnering acclaim from every corner of the industry, and achieving large streaming numbers on Spotify. New music from ANNA has been huge in festival sets for many world-leading techno DJs all summer. Then there was the richly deserved Essential Mix for the BBC that started 2019 off right, as the Brazilian distilled 20 years of DJing experience into an inspiring two-hour techno masterclass. DJ Mag rightly recognised her talents, putting her on the cover of their North American edition in February, a nod to the breakaway impact she’s had on that region.
Today’s success has been two decades in the making, stretching back to the nightclub her father owned in the countryside outside São Paulo, where she honed her craft as a DJ from the age of 14. Her journey since then has been marked by passion, hard work and unrelenting dedication to her craft. You can see this when she plays – a skilled and accomplished selector, her performances are energetic, engaging and captivating. Gigs at the legendary Warung, D-Edge and Time Warp Brazil in her home country are the stuff of legends, while globally she’s in ever-increasing demand playing everywhere from Movement Detroit, Awakenings, Tomorrowland, DC10 and Block in Tel Aviv. For an insight into her talents, you only need to check her vinyl DJ set for Cercle from last February, that’s already hit well over two million views. No surprise Mixmag heralded her as one of the best DJs of 2018 in their yearly wrap-up.
On the production front, she’s dropped critically acclaimed music on virtually every significant label in techno, including Hotflush, Drumcode, Novamute, Clash Lion, Sapiens, Domino with her Jon Hopkins remix, plus a new original for Tale of Us on Afterlife. Her relationship with Kompakt continues to reap fruits. Following on from the success of ‘Hidden Beauties’ that was acclaimed by Pitchfork and judged one of 2018’s Top Tracks by Mixmag, she released the stirring ‘Remembrance’ EP, highlighted by ‘When I Am Only A Dream’. In August this year, she released a very special collaboration with Kittin titled ‘Forever Ravers’ – which is already being heralded as ‘techno track of the year’ by a number of media platforms and certainly an anthem for our times.

Anna Meredith is a composer, producer and performer of both acoustic and electronic music. Her sound is frequently described as ‘uncategorisable’ and ‘genre-defying’ and straddles the different worlds of contemporary classical, art pop, techno, ambient installations and experimental rock - or as the Guardian said: "majestic bangers"...
Anna has been Composer in Residence with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the RPS/PRS Composer in the House with Sinfonia ViVA. She is also a regular presenter for BBC Radio3 and 6 Music and a radio and TV guest, judge and panel member on numerous shows including as Goldie's mentor for the TV show Classic Goldie.

Under the guise of an intoxicating collection of Jazz-inflected romantic ballads, his story telling has become decidedly more oblique, hinting at ominous situations and dark motions.

]]>Sometimes revolutions begin quietly. In 1988, Cowboy Junkies proved that there was an audience waiting for something quiet, beautiful and reflective. The Trinity Session was like a whisper that cut through the noise – and it was compelling. It stood out in the midst of the flash and bombast that came to define the late 80’s. The now classic recording combined folk, blues and rock in a way that had never been heard before and went on to sell more than a million copies.
With Cowboy Junkies’ new album, All That Reckoning, the band once again gently shakes the listener to wake up. Whether commenting on the fragile state of the world or on personal relationships, this new collection of songs encourages the listener to take notice. It also may be the most powerful album Cowboy Junkies have yet recorded.
While the music is characteristically easy to listen to, the songs on “All That Reckoning” are visceral. In true Junkies fashion, the gentleness is juxtaposed with rock that can be jarring.
