Bunty 'Multimos' Live AV Show

+ Support from Bellatrix vs Maggie Nichols

Kassia Zermon aka 'Bunty' is a unique force best known for pioneering underground experimental vocal loop shows and fronting UK leading Dub act Resonators. Bunty's distinctive voice and powerful avant-pop orchestra has been compared to FKA Twiggs and Tune-Yards and championed by likes of Rodigan, Mark Lamar and BBC6 taste makers Tom Robinson and Lauren Laverne.

She combines the rawness of early M.I.A with the lyrical espionage of Tom Waits and a voice that can sound as sweet as Ella Fitzgerald (on Acid).

To celebrate the launch of Bunty's new album 'Multimos' (11/14 Beatabet records), she has created a brand new ensemble and dazzling AV live show, which she will be presenting LIVE at Trinity. Join us for an epic audio visual feast, featuring stunning bespoke visuals of VJ metaLuna, performers Poppy Kay and Zoe Padley, megalithic beats from Dave the Machine and an audience choir.

Complete with its own home-made light show, special FX and a lot of helium to suck you into a raucous avant - pop party!

Hard to fit into any box this lady's influences are huge, bringing her Morrocan Londoner roots to create her own blend of raw avant – pop music. She has performed her boundlessly creative live shows at all the main UK festivals including Glastonbury, Bestival, and Secret Garden. Bunty has supported an eclectic mix of acts including Jamie Woon, scroobius pip, Kate tempest and Susheela Raman. She has collaborated with world class beatboxers Dub FX, Shlomo and Beardy man and some of UK's top vocal improvisers such as Maggie Nichols.

Live Bunty uses her synths, toys, ukulele, voice, effects pedals and a mash of real and made-up languages. She whispers, bellows, beatboxes, claps and stamps producing impressive vocal harmonies for her hook heavy tunes.

'Somewhere between a rave, a piece of theatre ,a workshop and a game ...but primarily an awesome pop gig' Rebecca Fiddler, Brighton Dome.

'Ha! We've never had such a visual music show on radio' BBC radio4 Clive Anderson

'...a musical and visual feat' Brighton Digital Festival 2014

'Great Voice' BBC radio 6 Tom Robinson

'Brighton's Rising star' BBC radio 3 Nick Luscombe

Multimos Taster Video

Maggie Nichols has performed internationally for several decades, for instance at the Zürich and the Frankfurt "Canaille" festivals and Moers, Grenoble,Mulhouse, Vancouver and Victoriaville Festivals.

She has also given solo performances at the Moers Music Festival, the Cologne Triennale, and a number of other creative and improvised music festivals. She has worked with a great many improvisers from all over the world including drummer Günter "Baby" Sommer, British musicians, soprano saxophonist Lol Coxhill, guitarist John Russell, Dutch trombonist and violinist Annemarie Roelofs, the Australian Relative Band (with Jim Denley), tuba player Pinguin Moschner, and prolific songwriting bands Loverly and Cats Cradle.

Vocalist Maggie Nicols has been an active participant in the European improvisational community since joining the Spontaneous Music Ensemble in the late '60s. As a co-founder of the Feminist Improvising Group, she has also worked to further women in improvised music, dancing and other creative arts not only by example, but through workshops and extensive collaborating.

The reason is that most people sit on a waiting list for ages and by the time we can offer a place, are often no longer free to attend. So frustrating for everyone.

25th January 17.00: 1st release, approx 80% of tickets on sale
20th February 09.00: Deadline for any refund requests
20th February 17.00: 2nd release, balance of tickets on sale (will include any cancellations)

- No refunds at all after 20th February, but you may sell your ticket to someone in the same role and notify us of the name change by 28th March.
- Tickets are for the named person only and can't be split between people.

WHAT TO EXPECT

What you say:
"Bristol Swing Festival is one of the best events I've been to. Not only were the swing lessons terrific, detailed, and fun, just being able to try out some of the wonderful circus skills made it memorable beyond words. All the people were wonderful, inviting, and kind, and I had some brilliant dances. Woo Bristol!"

What we say:
- A blend of Lindy Hop and Circus skills from a team of 50+ teachers. After the main Lindy workshops, the taster classes are in circus skills from stilts to aerial trapeze, juggling to clowning.

- You learn alongside your teachers. The initial concept was of an exchange of skills, and we ask all out teachers to join in as students, so your Lindy teachers will learn Circus with you, and your Circus teachers will learn Lindy with you.

- It's still intimate and personal. There's a marked rise in the super-festivals of 500-1000+ participants, but for us these can start to be a little impersonal and it's easy to feel a bit lost. We keep to a few hundred so you can still (just!) get to mix with everyone.

- The stunning cabarets are a blend of Circus and Lindy Hop, a concept we took to the Edinburgh Festival in 2015 for a successful run of 35 shows!

- It takes place in Bristol, one of the friendliest, and most welcoming dance scenes around. Just ask anyone who has visited, and visited, and visited....

PM Studio resident Nik Rawlings (Ni-Ku) presents 3 x 30 mins R&D performances of their new research work breathing.systems.

breathing.systems explores fluid, mediated and granular experiences of gender, embodiment and neurodiversity. Using a custom wireless multi speaker sound system worn on the bodies of performers, they create a network of live voices and a communal sound body to sing through.

Temporal, relational and shifting experiences of selfhood, embodiment and gender are a fundamental theme in the work. Spanning Gregorian chant and Sacred Harp singing; club and spiritual, breathing.systems asks- how does a voice tell the story of its body when it is heard through a network? Without the feedback of others’ skin, where does your own body end? Growing new self-hoods and forgetting, destroying or recycling discarded ones; forming in relation to and absorbing others. Each performer/speaker in the work forms a networked node and a collaborator, a carrier and a community member.

About the company

Nik Rawlings is a Counter Tenor vocalist, Artist and DJ/Promoter.

Benda Bilili

“Wielding inspiration and uplift in equal measure, this musical odyssey is one of the cinematic journeys of the year. Don't miss it.”

Philip Wilding, Empire ★ ★ ★ ★

From the lawless streets of Kinshasa, Congo, comes one of the most incredible stories ever committed to film. Five years in the making, BENDA BILILI follows a group of street musicians as they struggle to record their first album. Four of the group are paraplegics who get around Kinshasa in Mad Max/ Easy Rider-style customised wheelchairs. The other three are homeless street children whose star is Roger Landau - a teenage prodigy who plays on a home-made, single string guitar, fashioned from a tin can.

Prepare to lose yourself in the remarkable true story of BENDA BILILI, as we follow them from their first recording session to worldwide acclaim and stardom. Hailed as the new Buena Vista Social Club and brimming with humour in the vein of Anvil, BENDA BILILI is an inspirational, infectious, hilarious and life-affirming story of a dream that becomes reality.

South West Dance Theatre and Breathing Fire team up to bring home to you the riot of emotions that make up this legendary love story - the hatred between the two families sworn enemies, the love that knows no bounds, and the grief and tragedy that ultimately brings reconciliation. With Breathing Fire's inimitable African griot-inspired playback theatre alongside SWDT's signature blend of ballet, contemporary, jazz, capoeira, Latin and tap in a dance performance of Romeo and Juliet – we make you the audience the heroes and heroines experiencing how all this would feel using a mixture of pop, indie and classical music.

South West Dance Theatre draws from styles including ballet, tap, contemporary, Latin, commercial and capoeira, and has danced in venues from festivals and street performances to traditional theatres. The company has generated work around topics ranging from fairy tales to the physics of light and has repeatedly returned to Shakespeare.
Find out more about theatre and film screenings at Trinity this autumn

Image: Sould and Cells

We are thrilled to announce our Autumn Theatre and Arts programme, a dynamic exploration of grassroots social justice which celebrates underrepresented voices and shares untold stories from Bristol and beyond.

“This season is an ode to the underrepresented voices and cultures that make up our social fabric, redefining and exploring contemporary arts through the lens of social justice.” Esther Afikiruweh, Combined Arts Producer, Trinity

The series features film screenings, spoken word performances, theatre and dance and kicks off with an immersive audio trail, 'Duppy Hunter: A Local's Guide to St Paul's' on 03 Oct. Audiences are invited to embark on a playful exploration of St. Paul's, assuming the role of Duppy Hunters in pursuit of an elusive spirit hidden amongst the streets and sights of this vibrant neighbourhood. This unique ‘listening experience’ is a collaboration between Trinity and the renowned Tamasha Theatre Company whose work supports both emerging & established Global Majority artists and arts organisations Coney who create playful digital experiences.

On 12 October, we welcome community artists Carlota Matos and Hiba Elhindi, who, in collaboration with the refugee and asylum seeker support charity Borderlands, will host 'Theatre of Migration'. This evening promises engaging panel discussions, screenings, and sharings, delving into the world of participatory theatre and the ethical considerations of creating theatre based on lived experiences, particularly from the perspective of refugees and asylum seekers.

The powerful documentary, 'I am Judah', will be screened on 20 October. The film tells the poignant story of Easton resident Ras Judah, who was unjustly tasered by the police in 2017. Despite a criminal trial, the officer responsible was found not guilty, and in September 2018, she was also cleared of misconduct. "I Am Judah" critically examines this case, giving voice to Judah as a community elder and shedding light on the broader issue of police injustices affecting many others.

Returning to Trinity on 05 November, dance artist Akeim Toussaint Buck and Crystal Zillwood present their performance, 'Souls and Cells'. This mesmerising showcase delves into themes of heritage, ancestry, and moments of inter-connectiveness through the medium of movement, dance, and sound.

As a culmination of the season, we join forces with the Afrika Eye film festival on 17 November for the 17th festival edition. Together, we will present a screening of 'Neptune Frost', the 2022 science fiction romantic musical film co-directed by Saul Williams and Anisia Uzeyman, alongside performances from spoken word artists.

Our Autumn Theatre and Arts programme promises to be a season of thought-provoking and inspiring events, celebrating diversity, social justice, and artistic expression. Join us as we elevate underrepresented voices and share powerful stories that resonate with the many communities who live in Bristol.

About Trinity Presents:

The Smile at the Foot of the Ladder, according to Miller, is his only composition to draw inspiration "from the blue". The complex story follows the journey of Auguste, the famous clown who finds nothing easier than to make his audience laugh, but suffers dissatisfaction night after night. Through his performance, instead he seeks more, stopping at nothing less than attempting to bestow a lasting joy to his audience. It intricately explores the nature of work, the essence of happiness, and the longing to shake free of everyday life and to find something more.
