They have cropped up in art, maths and science for centuries. They have been found in the tiling on ancient Muslim temples and the crystalline microstructure of a meteorite, and they have been explored by intellectual greats from Johannes Kepler to Hao Wang and Roger Penrose.

Here you will be taken across the world and through the ages - from the world of shapes, sums and mathematical abstraction to the lab with experiments and simulations of quasicrystals - to feast your eyes, ears and mind on beautiful ideas using ballet, breakdancing and the pretty fractal patterns of Hofstadter's butterfly. Think Misty Copeland meets Beat Street, Penrose, graphene and gorgeous ancient middle eastern tiling.

There will also be a workshop before the performance (5:45-6:45) for those who would like to try a ballet and breakdancing approach to maths and physics for themselves – all ages and levels of expertise welcome. Attendance of the performance and participation in the workshop is free but sign up is recommended.

Studio Masterclasses with LCY & Mantra, and A Lecture with Elijah.

This year En Masse events are being held at four separate venues between the 15th and 18th November. These workshops at the Trinity Centre will act as a hub for refining skills around music creation.

A Lecture with Elijah: Building off his Yellow Square practice, Elijah’s thoughts and ideas have evolved into an educational and motivational hub for artists and creatives. He will speak to taking a hold of your creativity and passion for music, and how this can serve as a solid foundation to build out your creative practice.

The Studio Masterclasses with LCY and Mantra: Two masterclasses led by two prolific figures in UK club music; both DJ’s, producers and label bosses, LCY and Mantra have paved their own way.. These will be two, in-depth, intimate and hands-on studio sessions focusing on production techniques, different processes, creating their own sound & live track breakdowns.

*Masterclasses are suitable for those with an intermediate skill set, who have familiarity with production so they can use this session to strengthen and interrogate their own practice *

We want to encourage those in attendance to innovate and utilise tools taught by those with experience in the industry, with the view to using it as guidance towards taking the creative next step.

The day at Trinity will run from 12:00 - 18:00. There will be a networking hour with refreshments from 12:00 - 13:00 to connect and chat with others, and to prepare for the day ahead.

A Lecture with Elijah: 13:00 - 14:30

Studio Masterclass with Mantra: 14:30 - 16:00

Please note the studio masterclass capacity is very limited so we are prioritising attendees from colleges and schools around Bristol. However, the Lecture with Elijah is open publicly but will operate on a first come/first served basis on the day.

The Wardrobe Theatre presents... The Sunday Sessions.

This workshop will develop ideas and practices formed during the making of Toby Hulse's show Luna.

The Sunday Sessions are a series of workshops for theatre makers in the city to meet, play and share their practice, explore ideas together and learn from each other.

SESSION ONE with Toby Hulse

Toby Hulse is a Bristol-based playwright and theatre director, specialising in work for family audiences and in educational contexts. He is particularly interested in the impossible and the daft.

This workshop will develop ideas and practices formed during the making of his show Luna, about how to find the theatrical stories in scientific and mathematical material. It imagines that we are in the early stages of devising a show called A Play About Nothing.

Participants are asked to bring material about the concept of zero, the less theatrically promising the better...

Each session will be led by a different local theatre maker. Places are limited so book in advance.

This is presented by the Wardrobe Theatre in association with Trinity.
