Afrika Eye: Casablanca Beats
Afrika Eye presents an evening of music and a film screening of Casablanca Beats directed by Nabil Ayouch (Certificate - 12).
Casablanca Beats synopsis: Former rapper, Anas takes a job teaching hip hop in an underprivileged neighbourhood. Despite differences in identity, religion, and politics, Anas encourages his students to bond together and break free from the weight of restrictive traditions, to follow their passion and express themselves through the arts.
“Director Nabil Ayouch has drawn on his own experience of opening a youth cultural centre in Casablanca.”
A brilliant cast of first-time actors bring to life this inspiring coming-of-age drama about the liberating power of self-expression. Set in the lively contemporary streets of Casablanca, it rejects the clichés about the Arab world. A hip-hop musical like no other.
This event will feature a live music introduction from Mohamed Errebbaa, a Maalem (Master) of Gnawa music originally from Rabat, Morocco.
