Ross From Friends – aka British dance/electronic music producer Felix Clary Weatherall – built his own Ableton plugin Thresho, allowing him to stay fully in the moment while jamming with his instruments, free to go with ideas as they happened, safe in the knowledge nothing would be lost, or need replaying or recapturing. Tread is simultaneously sleek, melodic, and danceable; nostalgic but modern; with nods to sounds and styles that have been reimagined through the producer’s lens.

An integral part of Ross From Friends’ music has always been the 3-man live show – comprising of Felix, Jed Hampson, and John Dunk - that delivers a killer blend of live musicians (guitar, keys, and sax) and electronics.

RIDE

English rock band

plus support from Piney Gir

Ride have announced a one-off and intimate acoustic tour in late November and early December to round off a brilliant 18 months of new music, sold out shows and festival appearances. The five date run will mark the 30th Anniversary of this revered Oxford quartet, all providing a big, cyclical celebration of Ride's life in music and another opportunity to enjoy their much loved live show before taking a well earned break.

On first glance an acoustic tour might seem a strange way of celebrating Ride's gloriously noisy journey through thirty years of sound, especially one that was termed 'shoegaze' by the media in the '90s. The tour idea originally sprung from a unique night in April earlier this year when Ride played a beautiful old church, St Paul's, in Worthing. Ride performed an entire acoustic set, mixing in recent songs from the acclaimed 'Tomorrow's Shore' EP and 'Weather Diaries' album - both produced by Erol Alkan and mixed by Alan Moulder - with tracks from Creation-era classics 'Nowhere', 'Going Blank Again' and 'Carnival Of Light'. The set sounded totally psychedelic and robust, retaining the magic of the full electric set up and completely captivating the audience. So much so, it seemed like a good idea to do it again.

Over to the band with a further take on the acoustic "These shows will explore and span old and newer songs giving us a chance to play some tunes we rarely get to perform along with more familiar tunes in a different way. We’ve been loving all the shows we’ve been playing since our reunion and we look forward to these".

Richard Dawson

Poetic folk musician from Newcastle upon Tyne

Richard Dawson, the black-humoured bard of Newcastle, returns after the release of his sixth solo album 2020.

Where its critically-acclaimed predecessor Peasant (2017) gave a voice to the citizens of the ancient early medieval northern kingdom of Bryneich via a set of narratives as bawdy as Chaucer and as epic and bloody as Beowulf, 2020 is an utterly contemporary state-of-the-nation study, that uncovers an equally tumultuous and even bleaker time. Here is an island country in a state of flux; a society on the edge of mental meltdown. This is England today.

As with the very best social realism, Dawson introduces us to grand themes through small lives. His are portraits of human beings struggling with recognisable (and dare we say it, relatable) concerns, conflicts and desires, each reminding us that tragedy and gallows humour are not mutually exclusive, and that the magical can sit next to the mundane. Lyrically it is by far Dawson’s hardest-hitting and unflinchingly honest album to date. It is his poetic masterwork.
