Batu

Timedance owner Batu has carved out a unique sound for himself since his debut in 2013. Subsequent 12″s on a number of labels including XL Recordings, Hessle Audio and his own Timedance imprint have found him grounded in British bassbin principles. His style however is relentlessly forward thinking, and pushing his sound in adventurous, inventive ways that have become something of a signature aesthetic.

Batu and his tight-knit Timedance label continue to push the boundaries, putting Bristol firmly at the center of global bass-minded music culture. His efforts have given him a number of critically acclaimed years, including a series of standout EPs, remixes for Sampha and R&S Records, and establishing Timedance as one of the most vital proponents of fresh UK dance music.

His DJing is also increasingly respected worldwide. A standout set at Dekmantel’s Selectors festival earned him a place in The Guardian’s ‘Best Mixes of 2018’ list, and Mixmag ranked him as one of their top 20 DJs in 2017. Recent times have seen him tour Asia, America and play a series of the best festivals in Europe (a list including; Field Day, Freerotation, Dimensions, Unsound, Dekmantel and many more

Cando

Cando is a Bristol duo made up of Dj/Producer Chad Leotaud along with his production partner Owen Roberts.

The pair entered the scene in 2019 with their debut release "Bleak/Sundown" for Heavy-weight Bristol techno label Livity Sound. Following this, they have appeared on a slew of remixes and compilations for the likes of Lava Lava, Le Chatroom & Pressure Dome.

As a Duo, Cando's sound can be best described as a UK Funky -influenced percussive pressure incorporating surging bass along with a blend of tribal Afro-tech drums and blissful synthesizer motifs.

This is a formula that is showcased by the DJ of the duo (Chad) who incorporates these styles into his sets.

The group’s genre remains hard to define as their music ranges from sweeping electronic soundscapes to dance-rock anthems to understated acoustic songs. Suitably, their songs range in concept from the cerebral and abstract to the nostalgic and personal. After multiple sell-out Bristol shows, the band return to the city in for the final date of their UK tour.

Their barbed wit, lacerating intensity, and potent blend of art-rock, indie-pop, and post-punk is like little else around and led to their 2020 album, Every Bad, being nominated for the Mercury Music Prize.

Feelings of joy, fear, and endlessness define Porridge's past 2 years. A time spent being championed by major music sites without being able to experience any of it in the real world. In their latest album, Porridge have distilled their myriad of influences into a sound that is unequivocally theirs. With a trip-hop crunch, ghostly piano, and gloriously widescreen distortion, the latest release tests the musicians' limits and explores a newfound playfulness within their music.

Planet Shroom - postponed

Bristol's legendary psytrance night

Promoter statement:

Dear Shroomers,

We are sorry to announce that we are cancelling this date/postponing until our 12th March date. We know this will be disappointing, we are disappointed too. However, we are concerned that the three weeks between now and then is not long enough for this stage of the pandemic to blow itself out. The risk to us is twofold. First, there is the financial risk. To put on the show we do at the price we charge means that if we only get 50% of our usual number, it will hurt and we know for a fact that ticket sales for this kind of event, in bristol at least, are down across the board. It would create a large amount of stress for us waiting to see if people will decide to go at the last minute based on the latest covid situation. Second, and this is the one that really worries us, is that while this wave is still breaking strong, there is a risk that one, or more, of our crew goes down with covid the week before, and that would really screw things up and again create real stress and also have a huge effect on the end product.

We do these parties because they are fun to do, and we enjoy putting them on as much as you enjoy coming to them but we hold ourselves to high standards. The idea of doing this one at this time does not fill us with joy. We are very hopeful that by the time our next date comes around, on 12th March, we will have a good window between variants to put on a party everyone can enjoy being a part of.

One Love,

The Shroom Crew
