The Twinkle Brothers (Norman and Ralston Grant) are one of the best known original Jamaican reggae bands. Since the start of their career in 1962 the Twinkle Brothers have worked with many well known producers including Lee Scratch Perry, Bunny Lee and Duke Reid. In the 1970s they started to produce their own recordings.
The band were signed to Richard Branson's Virgin label in the 1970s. After leaving the label in the 1980s, Norman moved to the UK and set up his own Twinkle label. The TwinkleBrothers have released over 70 albums and over 29 12" records and over 136 7" singles. Their recordings stay true to their sound of roots reggae and to their rastafarian beliefs.
The TwinkleBrothers are regulars on the international festival circuits where Norman is well known for his energetic performances. Check out this clip of the Twinkle Brothers at Outlook Festival: Click Here
Channel One and The Twinkle Brothers enjoy a close working and personal friendship. This tour is the idea of Channel One's Mikey Dread who has long wanted to tour the sound system alongside the TwinkleBrothers. Mikey has been playing the Twinkle Brothers' riddims since the start of the sound system in the 80s, with some of the Twinkle Brother's tracks becoming signature Channel One tunes, such as Jahovia, Africa (Mikey's favourite) and Never Get Burn.
This will be a busy few weeks for Channel One, as on November 7th Channel One will defend their title as the Red Bull Culture Clash champions. In October 2010 Channel One beat the likes of Goldie's Metalheadz, Souljazz Sound System and Skream and Benga in a crowd voted live sound clash. This time the event will be held at Wembley and Channel One will compete against Major Lazer, Boy Better Know and Annie Mac presents Magnetic Man.
